Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Vikram Kumar Doraiswami has said Bangladesh media is vibrant, free, colourful, and very vocal.

“Media in Bangladesh is our (India’s) important partner in many senses,” he said while inaugurating the renovated media centre at Jatiya Press Club (JPC) in the capital.

The envoy said New Delhi emphasises on ensuring best possible understanding between India and Bangladesh.

Doraiswami said the friendship of Bangladesh and India was founded in 1971 and the partnership between the two countries is going forward.

“Your (media) role is very important (in this regard) and India always places great attention to the Bangladesh media,” he said.

Terming the JPC as a place that shows the spirit of Bangladesh, he said India values and respects the independence and story of the struggle of Bangladesh.

The Indian high commission here supported the JPC in upgrading and expanding facilities at its media centre.

JPC President Farida Yasmin, General Secretary Elias Khan, Joint Secretary Mainul Alam and Treasurer Shahed Chowdhury were present at the event, along with other senior members of the club.

Yasmin expressed gratitude for the Indian High Commission’s support in upgrading the Media Centre and said the ties between the two friendly countries have been expanding on all fronts.
