Shameem Ahsan made new Bangladesh envoy to Italy

Ahsan is a career foreign service officer belonging to 11th batch of Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Foreign Affairs cadre, a press release said on Monday

The government has decided to appoint Md Shameem Ahsan, currently serving as High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Nigeria, as next Ambassador of the country to Italy.

Ahsan is a career foreign service officer belonging to 11th batch of Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Foreign Affairs cadre, a press release said on Monday.

In his diplomatic career, he served in various capacities in Bangladesh Missions in Kuwait, Doha, Nairobi, Rome and Washington DC and Bangladesh Consul General in New York, and different positions at the Foreign Ministry including the Director General (External Publicity).

Ahsan wrote two books on diplomacy and international relations, and several articles on various issues like Bangali diplomats during the War of Liberation of Bangladesh, diplomatic immunity and privileges, country branding, environmental issues, economic relations, regionalism, South Asia, and Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

He completed his Masters and Honours in Political Science (First Class First in both) from Dhaka University. He stood first in order of merit at Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) under Jessore Board in Humanities.

Ahsan also completed year-long National Defence Course (NDC) on security, strategic and development issues from the National Defence College in Dhaka.
