She will hold discussion with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on climate change adaptation efforts
Marshall Island President Dr Hilda Heine has arrived in Dhaka.
She will be attending the Dhaka Meeting of the Global Commission on Adaptation (GCA).
The president of the Pacific island nation reached Dhaka early Tuesday on her two-day visit, reports BSS.
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen received her at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate GCA two-day meeting on Wednesday. Ban Ki-Moon, the current chair of GCA, will address a session titled “Way forward and next step towards climate change adaptation” in the program.
Before the inaugural session, prime minister will hold a meeting with Dr Hilda and Ban Ki-Moon to discuss various issues related to climate change adaptation efforts.
Dr Hilda started her visit on Tuesday by attending a preparatory meeting at Hotel InterContinental to talk about issues related to accelerating adaptation action and support from Bangladesh, and around the world.
Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin, CEO of Global Commission for Adaptation centre Dr Patrick V Verkooijen, Executive Vice President and Managing Director of World Resources Institute Manish Bapna and CGA Commissioner and Executive Director of Brac Muhammad Musa also attended the preparatory meeting.
In the afternoon, she will visit Bangabhaban to meet President Abdul Hamid.
Dr Hilda and Ban Ki-Moon are also scheduled to visit Rohingya camps and Khrushkul Special Asrayan Project at Ukhiya in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday.
She is scheduled to leave Dhaka in the early hours of Thursday.
