Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has said the government of India will continue to have cooperation with Bangladesh as a close neighbour.

She called Bangladesh Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali on Tuesday, reports the UNB.

The Indian minister also congratulated Mahmood Ali on his reelection victory in the 11th parliament election, which was held on December 30, 2018.

Sushma Swaraj hoped to work together with Ali in future, Bangladesh Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

Both ministers co-chair the Joint Consultative Commission (JCC) to coordinate sectorial collaboration between the two countries.

Foreign Minister Ali thanked the Indian external affairs minister for the call.

He expressed the hope that both countries would continue to work together for the benefit of the peoples of their two neighbouring nations.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl R Miller met the foreign secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday morning and discussed various issues of mutual interest.

The ambassador, however, did not talk to the press after the meeting.

UN Resident Coordinator in Dhaka Mia Seppo will also meet the foreign secretary at his office at 12pm.
