BSF arrests 11 Bangladeshis, 1 Indian in Meghalaya

BSF troops of the Meghalaya sector issued a statement claiming that a tense situation is prevailing in Bangladesh in the wake of the upcoming parliamentary election

Border Security Force (BSF) troops on Thursday arrested 11 Bangladeshis, including four minors, and an Indian national at Baghmara town of South Garo Hills district in Meghalaya.

BSF troops of the Meghalaya sector issued a statement claiming that a tense situation is prevailing in Bangladesh in the wake of the upcoming parliamentary election, and minority communities are suffering from insecurity in the country.

The statement has been issued in the light of apprehension of the Bangladeshis and an Indian national.

BSF troops nabbed them while inspecting vehicles on National Highway 62 which connects Baghmara of South Garo Hills and Tura of West Garo Hills.

The arrested Bangladeshi nationals were identified as Nirmal Sarkar, 34, Pronoy Dey, 23, Sapan Barman, 33, Kabi Ranjan Dey, 25, Nupur Talukdar, 22, Suma Sarkar, 25, Kana Rai, 20. The four minors are aged between two and five years.

The Indian national, Manmohan Majumder, 48, from West Bengal’s Cooch Behar district was arrested as well.

The Bangladeshi nationals are residents of Netrakona and Sunamganj who confessed that they had relatives in Cooch Behar.

Apart from this, the BSF troops seized Indian currency worth Rs8000 and Tk47,000 along with other personal belongings from their possession.

According to the BSF statement it was revealed that Manmohan Majumder entered Bangladesh a week ago, where he contacted all the Bangladeshi nationals with the aid of another Bangladeshi national, Sukumar Dayal Hajong of Netrakona district.

After reaching Bangladesh, he contacted willing Hindus who desired to migrate to India. He is one of the most wanted persons in Bangladesh who used to visit Netrakona frequently and motivate Hindus to migrate.

Majumder also confessed under interrogation that he was residing in Natrakona’s Kalmakanda since the last 17 years.
