The outgoing US envoy to Dhaka makes a farewell call on the prime minister
The United States will continue supporting Bangladesh in its overall development, the country’s outgoing ambassador told Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday.
Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat gave the commitment during a farewell call at PM Hasina’s official residence, Ganabhaban, in Dhaka on Tuesday, reports UNB.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, the prime minister’s press secretary, Ihsanul Karim, quoted the envoy as saying the US would continue providing support to Bangladesh for further progress.
“Both Hasina and Bernicat expressed satisfaction over the existing bilateral relations between the two countries,” Ihsanul said.
Bernicat also highly praised the prime minister and described Bangladesh's young people as “extraordinary”, expressing her “firm belief that they would carry forward the country's development”.
She also appreciated the mangoes and litchis that are produced in Bangladesh.
During the meeting, Sheikh Hasina told the US envoy that her main motto was to develop the country and ensure the welfare the people.
She recalled that she visited every corner of the country after her return from exile in 1981 and based on that experience she planned how the country would be developed.
The prime minister also shared with Bernicat her government's steps for the development of agriculture and other sectors.
Also present during Tuesday’s meeting was the prime minister’s principal secretary, Md Nojibur Rahman.
