Present Indian envoy Harsh Vardhan Shringla will be transferred to the US, according to India media

The Ministry of External Affairs of India is likely to appoint its senior cultural official Riva Ganguly Das as the next Indian high commissioner to Bangladesh, according to a Times of India report.

Das is currently the director general of the Indian Ministry of External Affair’s cultural arm – the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).

The current Indian high commissioner to Bangladesh, Harsh Vardhan Shringla, is likely to be posted as the next Indian Ambassador to the US, replacing Navtej Sarna, who is scheduled to retire at the end of the year, UNB reported on Wednesday.

The Indian government is planning a number of changes and appointing new envoys to a number of key world capitals, the Times of India reported.

However, when approached, a diplomatic source in Dhaka said nothing had been finalized as yet. “It will take time,” the source said.

Shringla was appointed the Indian high commissioner in Dhaka in November 2015.
