Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday said connectivity is important toward establishing regional communication and boost cooperation among neighbouring countries.

She said this when the newly appointed Ambassador of Nepal Prof Dr Chop Lal Bhusal met her at her office.

The prime minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.

Ihsanul said the prime minister has offered Nepal and Bhutan to use the Syedpur Airport in Bangladesh.

Hasina said Bangladesh and India are resuming their railroads, which were snapped after the Indo-Pak war in 1965.

"These railroads can be used for building connectivity in the region," she was quoted as saying.

She invited the Nepalese Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli to visit Bangladesh at his convenience.

She also recalled the support of Nepalese people and its government during Bangladesh's Liberation War in 1971.

Nepalese Ambassador Prof Dr Chop Lal Bhusal conveyed the greetings of the Nepalese prime minister to Sheikh Hasina, and remarked that relations between Bangladesh and Nepal are cordial.

While mentioning the recent political instability in Nepal, the ambassador assured her that his current government is strong and stable after adopting an inclusive federal constitution.

He highly appreciated Bangladesh's all-out support to Nepal during the devastating earthquake in 2015.

The ambassador said Nepal has the potential to produce 50,000MW power, and Bangladesh and Nepal are in talks for cooperation in this sector.

Talking about female participation in Nepalese politics, Bhusal said currently their parliament has 34% female representation, while 40% women have participated in local government elections.

He also mentioned that at present 3000 Nepalese students are studying in various institutions of Bangladesh.

The prime minister's Principal Secretary M Nojiibur Rahman was present at the meeting.
