The Bangladesh Embassy in Manila, Philippines, has observed Language Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day. Embassy staff and officials led by Asad Alam Siam, Bangladesh ambassador to the Philippines, paid rich tributes to the martyrs of the Language Movement by placing floral wreaths at a makeshift Shaheed Minar in the embassy on Wednesday morning, according to a press release. The national flag on the embassy premises was kept half-mast from morning to mark the day. A special discussion on “Amar Ekushey” was organized by the embassy to discuss the teachings of the 1952 Language Movement and its significance for Bangladeshi nationhood.  Along with Bangladesh embassy officials, members of the Bangladeshi community in the Philippines and other invited guests also participated in the function.
