Bangladesh State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam on Monday met with President of Kosovo Hashim Thaçi and the country’s Speaker of the National Parliament Kadri Veseli in Pristina, Kosovo.
According to a press release, the Kosovo president thanked the Sheikh Hasina-led Bangladesh Government for recognizing the independence of his country and establishing formal diplomatic relations during the meeting with the Bangladesh state minister at his official residence.
He added that he was aware of the history of Bangladesh and developments in South Asia as he was a historian, and that he hoped for a bright future for Kosovo-Bangladesh ties in the political, cultural, and economic fields. Thaçi also expressed his wish to visit Bangladesh at a suitable time.
In response, State Minister Shahriar Alam said Bangladesh would always understand and remember the heavy price paid by Kosovo for its independence, and assured that assistance required by Kosovo in its pursuit of full statehood would be granted.
The state minister also briefed the Kosovo president on recent developments of Bangladesh with regard to its “Vision 2021” and “Vision 2041.”
In his meeting with Kosovo’s speaker of the parliament, State Minister Shahriar Alam discussed ways to increase cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries, while the speaker said Kosovo had much to learn from Bangladesh as it was still a very young democracy.
