Benapole, Bongaon to jointly celebrate February 21 on no man's land
The people of Bangladesh and West Bengal will jointly celebrate International Mother Language Day this year, at the Benapole-Petrapole no man's land area. Preparations are already underway at Benapole and Bongaon municipalities, with a view to setting up lunch arrangements for 10,000 people on February 21. A meeting was held under the initiative of Sharsha upazila and union Awami League at the Benapole Awami League office on Saturday afternoon. Benapole municipality Mayor Ashraful Alam Liton said : "The slogan for February 21 will be 'You will be a world citizen if you are a Bangali by heart'." At a separate meeting at the Bongaon municipality auditorium of North 24 Pargana district, held inthe first week of February, the people of West Bengal, including West Bengal Minister for Food and Supplies Jyotipriya Mallick, agreed to support the slogan. The mayor said: "On the occasion of International Mother Language Day, people of the two Bengals will donate blood in Benapole's No Man's land. This year's February 21 celebrations will be very magnificent." People from both India and Bangladesh will participate in a discussion forum after placing floral wreaths on the occasion. Language leaders and prominent artists will also be present.
