Bangladesh’s ‘Jamdani diplomacy’ takes Assam by storm
At least Bangladesh 18 stalls with huge assortments of Jamdani, Benarasi saris and ready made garments have been set up at the 25th International Guwahati Trade Fair in Assam. The Bangladeshi High Commissioner to India Syed Moazzem Ali appeared at the silver jubilee of the trade fair to promote traditional Bangladeshi products. Syed Moazzem Ali urged Indian investors: "If you collaborate with Bangladesh entrepreneurs, both parties will benefit." The high commissioner said there is plenty of relatively cheap yet skilled and semi-skilled manpower in Bangladesh. He noted the many lucrative advantages for Indian investors in joint ventures with Bangladeshi companies. He also reminded both parties of the benefits in properly utilizing the geographical proximity of Bangladesh and the Seven Sisters states. The ambassador said: "The northeast region of India is rich in mineral resources and industrial raw materials. These can be sent to Bangladesh and exported again to India or elsewhere via buybacks. The more we do this, the more our countries will benefit.” The article was first published on banglatribune.com
