Dhaka intensifies campaign for OIC assistant secretary general post
Bangladesh has intensified its campaign in supports of its candidate for the post of OIC assistant secretary general, science and technology. Secretary (Consular) at the Foreign Ministry Kamrul Ahsan is Bangladesh's candidate for the post. Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, now on a visit to India to attend the Raisina Dialogue, India's flagship conference on geopolitics and geo-economics, formally introduced Kamrul to representatives of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) envoys on Wednesday in New Delhi at a formal dinner. Bangladesh High Commission to India Syed Muazzem Ali hosted the dinner in honour of the New Delhi-based ambassadors of OIC member countries. Earlier, Bangladesh contested for the post of OIC Secretary General in 2003. Executed war criminal SQ Chowdhury was the candidate at the time. Bangladesh will host the next round of Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Dhaka in May. Officials in Dhaka said they are hopeful of winning the post of the OIC Assistant Secretary General taking the advantage of the host country.
