Bangladesh Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon has been asked by Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal to start direct flights between Dhaka and Guwahati on Tuesday.
This direction connection will enhance connectivity that will boost trade and commerce, according to an official press release from Assam.
Minister Sonowal made this request to Menon while on board on a flight returning from Manipur after attending the North East Development Summit at Imphal.
“Improved air connectivity would be mutually benefitial to both Assam and Bangladesh,” Sonowal said to Menon.
Sonowal also requested Menon to increase trade and commerce through international trade centres at Dhubri's Golakganj, South Salmara's Mankachar and Karimganj's Sutarkandi in the Assam-Bangladesh border region.
In response to Sonowal’s requests, Menon expressed his desire to open new avenues to connect Bangladesh and Assam and assured him that his proposal will be considered positively, the release said.
