Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque has left Dhaka for China on Friday night to join the upcoming Interpol conference. He is leading a five member delegation.
Interpol's 86th Annual General Conference will be held in Beijing from September 26-29. The conference will take place at the China National Convention Centre.
The other members of the Bangladesh delegation are Deputy Inspector General (Operations) and Chief of Dhaka National Central Bureau (NCB) Barrister Mahbubur Rahman, Additional Inspector General (NCB) Md Mahbubur Rahman Bhuiyan, AIG (Intelligence and Special Affairs) Md Moniruzzaman and Additional Superintendent of Police Akhter Hossain.
Confirming the matter, Police headquarters Assistant Inspector General (media) Sohely Ferdous said that Bangladesh's police chief would speak on “Counter-terrorism: Bangladesh perspective.”
The IGP will also address the world community on international and territorial terrorism, the spread of terrorism and the role of the Bangladesh police force in controlling terrorism.
According to Sohely, the inspector general will also speak about the remarkable contribution of Bangladesh police to combating militants.
Sohely added: "Police chiefs of Interpol member countries and security experts will participate in the conference. They will discuss the prevention of organised crime, cybercrime and increased mutual cooperation.
Besides, there will be discussions on preventing terrorist activities and contemporary challenges."
The Bangladesh IGP will exchange views on mutual interests with the police chiefs of different countries.
