Dr Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen, secretary general of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), has arrived in Dhaka on a four-day visit.
This is his first visit to Bangladesh since he assumed the office of OIC secretary general.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Kamrul Ahsan received him at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka on Wednesday night.
Dr Al-Othaimeen’s is leading a five-member delegation.
During his visit, Dr Al-Othaimeen will call on President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday.
He will also hold a meeting with Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali in the evening at the State Guest House Padma.
The visit gives the Secretary General an opportunity to familiarise himself with Bangladesh, a country playing increasingly important role in OIC.
It would also give him the opportunity to seek views and suggestions of Bangladesh leadership on various OIC issues and matters of importance to the Muslim Ummah and the Islamic world.
As Bangladesh is going to host the 45th OIC Council of Foreign Ministers next year, this visit will allow discussion on Bangladesh-OIC Secretariat cooperation for that.
The OIC delegation is also scheduled to visit the refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar to observe the state of the Rohingya Muslims who were forced to leave their homes in Rakhine, Myanmar to escape military persecution.
