In a bid to ensure strict security and curb the menace of contraband smuggling along the Indo-Bangla border at Tripura, Director General (DG) of Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) Major Gen Abu Hossain came to the area for a two-day inspection, confirmed Border Security Force (BSF) sources.
During the early hours of March 9, nearly 20 people launched an attack on 10-12 local Muslim families of Sidhinagar, Belonia, which is close to the Indo-Bangla border. The families reside along a 150 metre portion of the border known as the zero-line. The situation became very tense.
In looking into this matter, the BGB DG attended a meeting with the BSF at Belonia where BSF Deputy Commandant DC Doyel Singh was present. The BGB DG was accompanied by Sector Commander Colonel Ahsanuzzaman, Operation Sector Additional Director General Zillur Rahman, Region Commander Hasnat, and so on.
The BGB DG then proceeded to the land customs office’s zero point at Srimantapur of Sonamura for the same purpose.
