President Hamid received the Palestinian President near the VVIP Tarmac of Shahjalal International Airport amid a 21-gun salute, while President Hamid’s two grandson and granddaughter - Namira and Jim - presented him a bouquet. A special flight carrying Abbas and his entourage landed at Shahjalal International Airport at 5pm. Finance Minister AMA Muhith, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury and State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam were present at the airport, among others. The Palestinian president was taken to Hotel Le Meridien Dhaka on the Airport Road through a ceremonial motorcade where he will be staying during the visit. Palestinian Foreign Minister Dr Reyad Al Malki, Chief Justice of Palestine and the Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud al-Habbas, Palestinian Authority Spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh, Majdi al-Khalidi and senior military and civil officials accompanied the Palestinian president. Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali later met the Palestinian president at his hotel around 7pm yesterday. During the meeting, he reaffirmed Bangladesh’s stance to support the cause of Palestine and expand bilateral cooperation in depth and dimensions in the future. The foreign minister welcomed him to Bangladesh and reassured the continuation of scholarships offered to Palestinian students for studying medical and other disciplines as well as training opportunities to the Palestinian armed force’s officials in Bangladesh. Abbas will visit Savar National Martyr’s Monument and pay respect to the martyrs of the Liberation War today around 2pm. He will plant a sapling and sign the visitors’ book there. He will then visit Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi around 3pm. President Abbas will have official talks with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Prime Minister’s Office in the evening around 4pm before having a one-to-one meeting for 15 minutes. Opposition Leader in Parliament Raushan Ershad is scheduled to meet President Abbas at his hotel in the afternoon. President Abbas will visit his Bangladesh counterpart Abdul Hamid at 7pm today at Bangabhaban to attend a banquet preceded by cultural programme hosted by President Hamid in his honour. President Abbas will leave Dhaka at 2pm on Friday.
