ULAB celebrates 15th Foundation Day

ULAB’s motto is to make student creative and inventive, said Dr Anis

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) has celebrated its 15th Foundation Day with a wide range of activities on its Dhanmondi campus.

The celebration took place at the ULAB auditorium on Wednesday.

A cultural event was organized by ULAB Alumni Association, followed by a formal event where stories were shared of how ULAB was established.

Speaking at the celebration as chief guest, Planning Minister MA Mannan said students who are marching towards their goals are the ones who give him hope.

“No matter what, students should never forget their roots,” he added.

Reminiscing about ULAB’s journey, its Board of Trustees Vice President Dr Kazi Anis Ahmed said: “The success of this university lies on the contribution of some humble people who worked tirelessly to start this university.”

He also said the motto of ULAB is to make its students creative and inventive.

Speaking at the event, National Professor Dr Rafiqul Islam shed light on the importance of liberal arts in the academia.

“Buet students do not really get to study humanities or social science. And, now we are seeing its consequences,” he said.

He also said being tech-savvy is important as this is the age of digital advancement, however, a student should also visit libraries and take handwritten notes in the classrooms.

While speaking at the event as special guest, Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh Chairman, Sheikh Kabir Hossain said the government should help private universities with funding, as some private universities cannot afford to provide good quality laboratories and other facilities to its students.

ULAB Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Shamsad Mortuza, Treasurer Professor Dr Milan Kumar Bhattacharjee, Registrar Professor Akter Ahmed, deans, heads of departments, faculty members, admin members, students and alumni also attended the foundation day celebration, among others.
