An exhibition staged in Dhaka on Friday afternoon used the empty shoes of people who had died in road accidents to protest the country’s poor road safety record.

The “Empty shoes are crying” exhibition ran from 4pm until 9pm at Sarak Dwip (Road Island) of Dhaka University's TSC area, and was curated by Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigosthi.

The protest event included the deceased’s personal profile alongside their shoes together with details of how they were killed in road accidents.

A banner displayed at the program said: “Once these shoes had gone to school, done office duty, went to the playground, walked through the streets; but where will these shoes go now?”
