A group of teachers of Dhaka University have announced a set of programs to protest attacks on them.

The teachers, under the banner ‘Teachers against Repression’, made the announcement at a press conference at the teachers’ lounge of TSC Cafeteria on the campus on Tuesday.

On Sunday, several teachers were assaulted allegedly by the ruling Awami League’s student wing, Bangladesh Chhatra League, when they joined a demonstration demanding the release of quota reform activists.

The teachers called for a solidarity rally in front of the Aporajeyo Bangla on July 19 and a cultural event at the Arts faculty on July 23.

They will also submit a memorandum to the university Vice Chancellor demanding action against the attackers.

Prof Samina Lutfa, who read out the written statement at the press conference, said Chhatra League activists foiled their rally and assaulted them at the Central Shaheed Minar.

She said no member of either the proctorial body or law enforcement agency was present during the assault.
