Met office predicts heavy rainfall over four days

The weather office reports that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to take place in parts of Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet, Rangpur, Mymensingh and Barisal divisions over 24 hours from Wednesday. Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) issued the report as part of a press release on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusts or squalls is likely to occur over Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna, Barisal, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places in the country over 24 hours till 9am Wednesday," the BMD press release said. A downpour in the Chittagong division last Tuesday caused landslides in Chittagong, Rangamati, Bandarban, Khagrachhari and Cox’s Bazar. At least 154 people are confirmed dead due to the landslides.

Local government and rescue services have warned that any rain could trigger further landslides in the affected area.
