The election was held on Monday, from 9am to 5pm
Mursalin Nomani and Mosiur Rahman Khan have been elected president and general secretary of the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU).
Nomani bagged 526 votes, while Shahnewaz Dulal and Nazrul Islam Mithu got 447 and 398 votes, respectively, while contesting for the president’s post on Monday.
Mosiur received 692 votes to win the post of general secretary.
Other elected office bearers are: Vice-President Osman Gani Babul (553 votes); Joint Secretary Arafat Daria (326 votes); Finance Secretary Shah Alam Nur (753 votes); Organizing Secretary Mynul Hasan Sohel (770 votes); Office Secretary M Jafar Iqbal (650 votes); ICT and Training Secretary Halim Mahmud (646 votes); Cultural Secretary Mizan Chowdhury (707 votes); and Hospitality Secretary Mohammad Naymuddin (584 votes).
MM Jashim (792 votes), Azizur Rahman (730 votes), Rumana Jaman (713 votes), M Mahbubur Rahman (690 votes), Rafique Rafi (666 votes), Nargis Jui (608 votes) and Jahangir Kiron (551 votes) have been elected as the executive members of the new committee.
The DRU election voting began at 9am and continued till 5pm without any break.
A total of 1,381 votes were cast out of 1,693 voters of the country's biggest organization of reporters.
Election commissioners Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul and MA Aziz conducted the election.
Three candidates - Women Affairs Secretary Rita Nahar, Publicity and Publication Secretary Maidur Rahman Rubel and Welfare Secretary Khalid Saifullah - were elected unopposed.
A total of 38 candidates contested for the remaining 18 posts.
