A total of 18 crude bombs have exploded in front of Uttara’s Malekabanu Adarsha Bidyaniketan centre, where a BNP backed candidate cast his vote for Dhaka 18 constituency.
Confirming the matter, police official Mohidul (according to his nameplate) said: “The crude bombs exploded around 10:30am.”
“We are suspecting that they were thrown from a nearby building. Two persons have already been detained in connection with this incident,” he added.
However, the concerned officer for the centre, Nure Alam, refused to make any comments on the matter.
Awami League nominated candidate for Dhaka 18 constituency by-polls, Mohammad Habib Hasan claimed that the crude bombs were detonated by BNP associates.
Rejecting the allegation, BNP contender SM Jahangir Hossain said: “Everything is under the control of the ruling party men. We cannot even enter voting facilities.”
Earlier, SM Jahangir Hossain claimed that his polling agents were kicked out from several centres by ruling party men and law enforcers.
He made the claim after casting his vote around 9:45am on Thursday.
