Jatiya Party (JaPa) mayoral candidate for the Chittagong city polls, Solaiman Alam Seth, has announced the withdrawal of nomination for the upcoming election slated for March 29.
While talking to Dhaka Tribune Sunday morning, Solaiman said his party high command asked him to withdraw the nomination paper for the Chittagong city polls.
“My party chairman has told me that we are not prepared for the Chittagong city polls. We will take preparation for the next general election. That is why I have decided to quit the polls,” said Solaiman, also presidium member and president of JaPa Chittagong city unit.
Earlier, a total of nine mayoral aspirants submitted their nomination papers to contest the Chittagong city polls.
The Election Commission then rejected nomination papers of two independent mayoral aspirants after scrutiny.
The two rejected candidates were Khokon Chowdhury and Tanzir Abedin.
