The Election Commission (EC) has said no mayoral and councillor candidate of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) polls can use posters laminated with plastic and polythene during their election campaign.
The decision was taken at a meeting on Sunday, considering the adverse effects of polythene on the environment, said Staff Officer Bulbul Ahmmed to the returning officer of the CCC polls.
Bulbul also said: “We are notifying the candidates, who are collecting nomination papers, about the directive. Besides, we will also sit with the candidates after scrutinizing the nomination papers.”
He further stated that use of laminated posters will be treated as a breach of electoral code of conduct. As per the electoral rules, necessary action will be taken against candidates found violating the directive.
Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) elections will be held on March 29 and the nomination papers need to be submitted by February 27.
The nominations will be scrutinized on March 1 and the candidates can withdraw their nomination till March 8.
Earlier, the High court asked the Election Commission to take effective measures to stop the production of laminated posters, as those have an adverse effects on environment.
