Atiqul has violated section 5 and 22 of the electoral code of conduct

The Election Commission has issued a show cause notice to Awami League mayoral candidate Atiqul Islam for breaching the Election Commission code of conduct in the upcoming Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) polls slated for January 30.

The notice mentioned that Atiqul along with a MP had inaugurated an election campaign camp in Uttara on Sunday, which was published in various media outlets on Sunday and on national dailies on Monday.

According to the election law, mayoral candidates contesting in the Dhaka North and Dhaka South City Corporation polls have until January 9, to withdraw their candidacy.

No candidate will be able to carry out election campaigning till he or she is assigned a symbol. Ministers including members of parliament, are not to campaign for any candidates in the local government elections as well.

But an election camp of the ruling party candidate Atiqul Islam was inaugurated at Uttara on Sunday. Local MP and also the Presidium member of Awami League, Advocate Sahara Khatun inaugurated the campsite.
