4-tier security for Rangpur 3 by-polls

Security measures are being taken to conduct the by-polls peacefully, in a free, fair, transparent, and credible manner, said the election commission

The Election Commission has built up a four-tier security blanket, and completed all the preparations for conducting the by-polls in Rangpur 3 constituency.

Rangpur Regional Election Officer, and Returning Officer for Rangpur 3 by-polls, GM Sahatab Uddin said six candidates will contest in the by-election with their allocated symbols.

The candidates are Jatiya Party (JaPa)-nominated Rahgir Al Mahi Saad Ershad (plough), BNP-nominated candidate Rita Rahman (sheaf of paddy), independent candidate Hossain Mokbul Shahriar Asif (motor car), National People Party-nominated candidate Shafiul Alam (mango), Gano Front-nominated candidate Muhammad Shahidullah (fish), and Khelafat Majlish-nominated candidate Tauhidur Rahman Mandal Raju (wall clock).

“We have built up four-tier security measures to conduct the by-polls peacefully in a free, fair, transparent, and credible manner,” Sahatab said.

Kadamtala Election Officer, and Presiding Officer, Anwarul Islam said: “The polling will begin at 9am, and continue uninterruptedly till 5pm on Friday, using the electronic voting machines (EVMs) at all the 175 polling centres.”

A total of 441,224 voters - 220,823 males and 220,401 females - are eligible to cast their votes in the by-election.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has sent trained election officials with ballot papers, and EVMs to all 1,023 booths in the 175 polling centres, including 49 important polling centres, in the constituency.

Rangpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Biplab Kumar said: “Security measures have been taken to ensure free, and fair election.”

The law enforcement agencies will play active roles so that the voters could easily go to the polling centers, and cast their votes in a peaceful, and festive atmosphere.
