Leftist parties in Bogra have decided to boycott the fifth phase of upazila election for the Bogra 6 constituency scheduled for June 24.

Baam Ganatantrik Jote of Bogra district, an alliance of eight leftist parties declared their decision in a press conference at the Bogra press club on Tuesday afternoon.

In a written statement, coordinator Abdur Rashid of the Baam Ganatantrik Jote said: "We are not contesting the upcoming upazila election because the wounds of the unfair election earlier have not healed yet.

"We saw the ruling party winning the election in around 200 upazilas uncontested. The upazila elections were the same as the general election of December 30.

"The general election was also nothing but a farce. The election commission was not able to take any steps to earn the faith of the populace.

"Elections by stealing votes from people continued, demands of neutral election time government were not heard. We will continue our protest till we get a complete reform of the election system in the country," he added.
