The fifth phase of election will be held on June 18

Chief Election Commissioner Nurul Huda has instructed upazila election officers to perform their duties neutrally during the fifth phase of the Upazila Parishad Election.

"Ensure safety of the agents of each candidate," he said on Wednesday. "Make sure the candidates maintain the code of conduct while campaigning."

Huda gave the instructions at the inauguration ceremony of briefing sessions for returning officers ahead of the fifth phase election

Addressing the program at Election Training Institute (ETI), he added: "The returning officers should also improve their knowledge of how to use Electronic Voting Machines (EVM)s."

The fifth and last phase of the polls will be held in 21 upazilas on June 18.

CEC warns the returning officers about violation of electoral rules and regulations saying that anyone who misuses the power as election officials will be brought to justice.

Citing examples of irregularities from the past, the chief election officer said all officials concerned will have to be very careful about this

“Casting vote through electronic voting machine (EVM) is a big dream of the commission. We hope fair election can be possible by using the voting machines,” he added.

The last date of nomination paper submission is on May 21, scrutiny on May 23, withdrawal on May 30.
