The polls were suspended during fifth-phase upazila parishad election on March 10

Update : 05 May 2019, 11:35 AM

Voting has begun in Lalmonirhat's Aditmari upazila parishad election, which was suspended on March 10 following allegations of election rule violations.

The voting began at 8am and will continue till 4pm without any break.

Voters were seen casting their ballots at polling stations in a peaceful and festive manner. After casting his vote, octogenarian voter Sirajul Islam said: "I am very happy to cast my ballot at this age without any hassle."

In firsthand visits at voting centres, similar remarks have been heard by other voters.

However, voter turnout is relatively low.

Manjurul Hasan, Returning Officer (RO) of Adirmari upazila parishad election and Lalmonirhat district election officer, said: "The poll was scheduled to be held on March 10.”

“However, the Election Commission suspended it following violation allegations of election rules by the assistant private secretary (APS) to lawmaker from Lalmonirhat 2 constituency and Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed. Later the commission rescheduled the poll to May 5," he said.
