According to officials concerned, information about 8 million citizens will be collected in this round

The Election Commission will start gathering data on April 23 across the country to update their voter list.

Representatives of the commission will go door to door in each constituency until May 13, to enlist new voters.

Registration and collection of fingerprints at designated centres will continue from May 25 to Oct 30.

According to officials concerned, information about 8 million citizens will be collected in this round.

The Commission will collect data on citizens who are over 16 years old - born on or before January 1, 2003. They will be enrolled as voters once they are 18 years old, according to EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed.

The commission has assigned 52,500 data collectors, 10,500 supervisors, and 780 assistant registration officers for the voter list update.

More than 40,000 polling stations of the last general elections will be used in the registration process.

Deceased voters will be dropped from the new voter list and citizens will also be able to transfer their electoral areas.

There are around 104.15 million voters in Bangladesh now, of which, over 52.5 million are male, and about 51.65 million are female.

Secretary Helal also said they would use tablet computers, which were used to collect results from EVM polling stations, in the voter registration process.
