As per the commission’s directives, three MPs from Tangail and Ranajit Kumar Roy from Jessore 4 left their constituencies on Thursday

The Election Commission has directed six Awami League MPs to leave election zones in their constituencies before the fourth phase of the Upazila Parishad Election on Sunday.

Letters from the commission were sent to lawmakers concerned on Wednesday, directing them to leave electoral areas by Thursday.

The MPs are: Anwarul Abedin Khan from Mymensingh 9, Mohammed Ekramul Karim Chowdhury from Noakhali 4, Ranajit Kumar Roy from Jessore 4, Hasan Imam Khan from Tangail 4, Sanowar Hossain from Tangail 5, and Joaherul Islam from Tangail 8.

As per the commission’s directives, the three MPs from Tangail and Ranajit Kumar Roy from Jessore 4 left their constituencies on Thursday.

Since the campaigns for the upazila polls began, as many as 20 lawmakers, mostly from the Awami League, have been ordered to leave election zones to avert any violation of the electoral code of conduct.

The commission had also written to the speaker of the House regarding the issue.

A total of 107 Upazilas are expected to go to polls on Sunday, in phase four of the Upazila Parishad Elections.
