On March 4, these MPs were elected to their seats unopposed
The Election Commission (EC) has issued a gazette notification containing the names and addresses of 49 members of parliament for reserved seats for women.
According to the notification issued Monday, the commission said it had published the list of the reserved seat MPs as per the provisions of the relevant law.
Among the MPs, 43 are from Awami League, four from Jatiya Party, one from Workers’ Party of Bangladesh and one independent.
On March 4, these MPs were elected to their seats unopposed.
On February 3, the Election Commission announced the election schedule for the reserved seats.
The reserved seats for women are allocated to political parties in proportion to their number of seats in parliament. Article 65 of the Constitution says that the 50 reserved seats exclusively for women members, will be elected by the MPs.
Only MPs who took their oath of office are allowed to vote in the election for the women’s reserved seats.
