EC Secretary: Zila Parishad members, UP chairmen must resign to contest polls

Government school employees will also have to resign before contesting in the polls

Zila parishad members and Union Parishad (UP) chairpersons will have to resign in order to participate in the upcoming upazila polls.    

However, Upazila Parishad chairmen, vice chairmen, and reserved female vice chairpersons will not be allowed to contest the upcoming Upazila Parishad election without first resigning from their positions.

Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed remarked this while addressing the press at the second phase of the training session for returning officers; at the Election Commission building, in Dhaka's Agargaon, on Thursday.

"Government school employees will also have to resign before contesting in the upcoming upazila polls," he added.
