EC: Nominations for reserved seats valid

The Election Commission announced this following its scrutiny of the issue

The Election Commission, on Tuesday, validated the nominations of 49 aspirants for the parliamentary seats reserved for women.

Election Commission Returning Officer Abul Kasem told the Dhaka Tribune: “The deadline to withdraw candidacies is February 16. If by that time no-one withdraws their nomination, then they will be declared winners … as they are the only candidates from their respective areas.”

The EC made the announcement following its scrutiny of the issue.

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, on Monday, submitted the names of 43 nominees picked for the women’s reserved seats in parliament to the Election Commission.

He submitted the nominations on behalf of ruling party Awami League to the returning officer at Agargaon.

Meanwhile, Jatiya Party (JaPa) General Secretary Moshiur Rahman Ranga also submitted the names of four people nominated for the reserved seats to the commission.
