Musician Shafin Ahmed, member of the band Miles, has purchased his nomination form to run as a Jatiya Party candidate in the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayoral race.
Deputy Press Secretary of former President HM Ershad, Khandakar Delwar Jalali confirmed the matter in a statement issued on Monday.
Additionally, eminent businessman Hasibul Islam Joy also purchased his form to run on behalf of Jatiya Party.
Two forms for the mayoral post and 29 for councillor positions were sold to potential Jatiya Party candidates.
Meanwhile, there is also one female candidate for the reserved seat for women, the statement added.
The forms were sold on both Sunday and Monday; while the deadline for the distribution and submission of the forms has been set for 2pm on Tuesday.
Jatiya Party’s Dhaka Metropolitan North unit Office Secretary Anisur Rahman Khokon sold the nomination forms to the candidates.
The DNCC election will be held on February 28, for which the candidates will have to submit nomination papers by January 30, the Election Commission announced on Thursday.
The nomination forms will be scrutinized on February 2, while the candidates will have till February 9 to withdraw their candidacies.
