The Election Commission has decided that the upcoming Upazila Parishad Election will be held in five phases across the country.
The commission hinted at the latest arrangement at a press conference held on Tuesday in Dhaka, and later confirmed it via a press handout on Wednesday.
The handout also mentioned the final decision in this regard will be made by the commission on February 3, and the schedule for the Upazila Parishad Election will be announced the same day.
In the first phase, polls will be held in all upazilas under two or three districts on March 8 or 9. The second, third, and fourth phase will be held on March 18, 28, and 31, consecutively.
The fifth phase will be held after the holy month of Ramadan.
According to the handout, municipality elections in Patuakhali and Amtali of Barguna district will be held on February 28. Elections in 11 union parishads and by-polls in various municipalities, union parishads, and zila parishads will be held on the same day.
On Tuesday, the Election Commission also announced that the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) by-election will be held on February 28.
The commission’s Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed announced the schedule at a press briefing at the commission office in Dhaka’s Agargaon.
