The information minister says the gazette notification will be issued on January 2

Update : 01 Jan 2019, 02:01 PM

Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu has said the newly-elected lawmakers will be sworn in to parliament on January 3 (Thursday).

The gazette notification in this regard will be issued on January 2, he made the statement at a dialogue, held at the media centre of the Parliament Secretariat on Tuesday.

Responding to a journalist's query, Inu said BNP rejected the election results as part of its conspiracy.

The minister also confirmed that Jatiya Party will be the main opposition in parliament, reports UNB.

"They can also be a part of the government if the Prime Minister offers and they accept," he added.

Inu said the Awami League-led Grand Alliance works on behalf of the people and that is why the coalition won Sunday's 11th general election by a huge margin.

EC ‘unprepared’

Meanwhile, the Election Commission’s Assistant Director of Public Relations Md Ashadul Haque said the Election Commission is not prepared to issue the gazette notification on Wednesday.

He stated this to our correspondent, via the phone, on Tuesday, adding that they are still unable to gather adequate information to announce the gazette notification.

He furthered that the Election Commission might take a week to issue the gazette notification.
