Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Awami League president has won the Gopalganj 3 constituency almost unopposed in a landslide victory bagging 229,539 votes in Sunday’s 11th general election.
Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed made the official announcement at the EC office in Dhaka’s Agargaon in the evening.
The prime minister did not face much competition from her contenders — with BNP candidate SM Jilani securing only 123 votes, Islami Andolan Bangladesh candidate Md Maruf Sheikh 71 votes, and others only 14 votes.
From his office in Gopalganj, District Returning Officer Md Mokhlesur Rahman also announced the same results from 108 centres of the constituency.
According to the EC, a total of 229,747 votes cast were valid and 394 invalid.
