BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed his unhappiness with the ongoing 11th general elections, mentioning that irregularities are taking place.

He made the statement while speaking to reporters at Thakurgaon Collectorate Public School and College after visiting several voting centres in his own constituency of Thakurgaon 1.

The senior politician visited the polling centres upon receiving complaints of irregularities from supporters.

Fakhrul said he had received complaints that BNP polling agents are not being allowed into several polling centres, including Thakurgaon Government College, Balapara Govt Primary School, and Begunbari Madrasa.

He also said he heard voters were not being allowed to enter the Begunbari Madrasa centre, and were told that their votes had already been cast.

The BNP secretary general also said upon visiting Thakurgaon Government College, he saw only one female polling agent, who told him she had only been allowed in after those inside spotted Fakhrul’s car.

Fakhrul said he subsequently contacted the presiding officer at Thakurgaon Government College, and upon receiving no answers, met with the returning officer. However, it was to no avail.

Earlier on Sunday, Fakhrul cast his vote at Thakurgaon Government Girls’ School around 8:25am. There, he saw long lines of people waiting to cast their votes, and remarked: “If the election goes like this, BNP will win.”
