A Chhatra League leader has been hacked to death by unidentified assailants in Gazipur.
The victim is Liakat Hossain, 44, a resident of Rathkhola who had served as Chhatra League-backed vice president of Kazi Azimuddin College.
Confirming the incident to the Dhaka Tribune, Metropolitan Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Samir Sutradhar said: “A gang of unidentified assailants attacked Liakat with machetes near the local deputy commissioner’s office at Harinal around 2:45pm.
“He died while being taken to a nearby hospital. Law enforcers have been dispatched to the scene to investigate the killing. Liakat’s body is being kept at Shaheed Tazuddin Ahmad Medical College and Hospital.”
Liakat’s younger brother is Gazipur unit Chhatra League President Masud Rana.
