Flanked by polling officials, Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda casts his vote at the IES School and College polling centre in Uttara, Dhaka on Sunday, December 30, 2018 Focus Bangla

‘Law enforcement officials have been given instructions to ensure the security of voters all over the country’

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has said determining whether the 11th general election has been participatory or not can only be ascertained after the election is over.

“But voting is going on in a conducive environment, apart from some isolated incidents,” he told reporters after he and his wife cast their votes at the IES School and College polling centre in Dhaka’s Uttara on Sunday.

“Law enforcement officials have been given instructions to ensure the security of voters all over the country,” he said.

In cases where the situation is not under control, the polling stations in question would be shut down and voting there would be held later on, he added.

When asked about the absence of BNP polling agents at the IES School and College, he said: “There is nothing we can do if they do not come.”
