The SMS service is only for Dhaka metropolitan area voters, EC says
The Election Commission has no mechanism in place to inform voters where they should be voting, an official has said.
Election Commission Joint Secretary (public relations) SM Asaduzzaman told the Dhaka Tribune on Saturday he had not told any news media that voters could see the polling centre they are assigned to on the EC’s website.
“We have no mechanism in place to let voters know where they should be voting,” he said.
In this general election, an SMS service has been launched for the voters of Dhaka metropolitan area only, he added.
Asaduzzaman said voters can find out where to vote in the traditional way, by checking with agents and officials at polling centres.
The SMS service too, has been sluggish.
One voter who sent SMS to 105 with their voter ID got no response, and later sent another from a different mobile number.
The second text, sent at 3:45pm, got a response at 6:10pm.
Another voter sent his text at 6:45pm and got the response at 8pm.
