A gang of culprits set the office building on fire around 3:30am

A gang of culprits have set an Awami League office on fire in Bagerhat municipality. The arson took place at the ward 4 ruling party office in the early hours of Saturday.

Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, ward 4 Awami League President Shafiqul Islam said: “Ruling party leaders and activists locked up the office on Friday night and headed home. A gang of culprits set the office building on fire around 3:30am.

“The fire destroyed office furniture and a television set. On a tip off from the locals, fire service personnel arrived at the scene to douse the flames. Local police have visited the area.”

Shafiqul claimed that activists from the BNP-Jamaat alliance are behind the arson.

Bagerhat fire service Deputy Assistant Director Masud Sardar said two units of fire service personnel were dispatched to tame the blaze at the ruling party office.

Bagerhat Additional Superintendent of Police Md Shahadat Hossainconfirmed: “Culprits torched an Awami League office which was being used as a election camp. An investigation has been launched over the matter.”

“Those responsible for the incident will be brought to book,” he said.
