Obaidul Quader: Not CEC, Dr Kamal should resign

He said this in response to Dr Kamal’s demand that CEC KM Nurul Huda resign

Update : 26 Dec 2018, 05:12 PM

Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said Dr Kamal should resign—as a failed leader of Jatiya Oikya Front—not the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).

Obaidul Quader, also Awami League General Secretary, stated this while addressing an election rally—as the chief guest—at the Latifunnessa High School field, in Comilla’s Chauddagram, on Wednesday.

The Awami League leader inquired about Dr Kamal’s motive in meeting with Nurul Huda  when he wanted Huda to resign.

He said: “'Boat’ and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government is known for development and keeping peace. Any other government will create an atrocious situation in the country such as: murder, stealing, robbery, arson, and rape; among others.

“That is why, people will vote for the boat symbol on December 30.”

Chauddagram upazila Chairman and upazila unit Awami League President Abdus Sobhan Bhuiyan Hasan presided over the rally.

Comilla 11 Awami League candidate and Minister of Railways Mazibul Hoque, Chauddagram Municipality Mayor Mizanur Rahman, Kashinagar Union Parishad Chairman Mosharraf Hossain, and others, spoke at the event.

Opposition platform Jatiya Oikya Front demanded the removal of Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda, on Tuesday.

The platform’s leaders categorically said the incumbent CEC will not be able to hold a “free, fair, and neutral election.”

“We demand a new chief election commissioner because we have lost hope that we  will have a free and fair election under the present one,” BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said.

In addition, Fakhrul urged the public to establish their voting rights in the country, claiming the Election Commission is failing to do so.
