On the issue of attacks, Manna said filing complaints with the Election Commission has gone in vain as it has not taken any steps to prevent attacks
Oikya Front leader and Nagorik Oikya Convener, Mahmudur Rahman Manna, says the ruling party will be responsible if the people of the country rise up against those who want to win the next general election by force.
He made the remarks talking to reporters when he went to meet Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda at the Nirbachan Bhaban on Sunday afternoon to file complaints about the violent attacks, harassment, and case filings against his party activists and followers.
Manna is running in the upcoming 11th general election from Bogra 2 constituency.
Manna said: “Till now, many of the candidates are being arrested, attacked while various dramatics are ongoing about their candidacy status. It seems like a dramatic environment rather than an election environment. I have seen in the newspaper today that the United Nations has expressed concern about our election environment.”
“If the election takes place in this way, then someone will try to snatch victory in a lopsided poll. If our countrymen then strike back against such rigged activities the responsibility will fall upon those who are in power now,” he said.
Manna also said people are very enthusiastic about casting their vote in this election but they (the ruling party) are carrying out all sorts of terrorist activities to thwart them.
On the issue of attacks on the leaders, activists, and supporters of the opposition parties, Manna charged that filing complaints with the Election Commission has gone in vain as it has not taken any steps to counter or prevent such actions.
