Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said Awami League always works for the welfare of the people, urging the people to give her party another scope to serve the country for the upcoming 11th parliamentary election.

Sheikh Hasina made the remark on Saturday while addressing an election campaign rally at the Govt Alia Madrasa ground in Sylhet.

The prime minister said using the talents and merits of the youth; Awami League wants to build a developed and prosperous country.

She said people's welfare is ensured whenever Awami League is in power as the party was founded by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

She said the Sylhet-Dhaka highway will be elevated into four-lanes and Sylhet will be provided with all facilities of a divisional city.

She also said every house in the country will come under the electricity coverage by 2021.

Urging the people to give her party another scope to serve the country, the Awami League president said: "Inshallah, the symbol of 'boat' will come out victorious in the next election."

The prime minister also introduced the Awami League and grand alliance candidates in all the constituencies of four districts -- Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Sunamganj and Habiganj.

Will bring Tarique to justice

The Awami League president also vowed to bring back from London, BNP acting chairperson Tarique Rahman, convicted in a number of cases, in order to execute court verdicts.

"There is one person who is playing games from London. He is a convicted criminal. If Allah gives us the scope, we will bring back that convicted criminal and execute the verdicts on Bangladesh soil. We will not allow anyone to play with the fate of the people of the country," she said.

The premier dubbed Tarique as the kingpin of militancy, terrorism and corrupt practices who played with the fate of the people while he is now living in London visibly to evade justice.

"Bangladesh will march forward maintaining this honour and recognition. This honour must not be allowed to decay. We need your votes in favour of the boat for this," she said.

Seeking votes for the "boat" in the upcoming December 30 polls, the Awami League chief said: "'Boat' means development while the meaning of 'sheaf of paddy' is corruption, terrorism, militancy and arson."

She also said Bangladesh's dignity achieved through the Liberation War was ruined after 1975.

PM blasts BNP

Sheikh Hasina blasted the BNP for giving nomination to war criminals.

Sheikh Hasina said BNP are involved in corrupt practices to such an extent that they put on auction the nominations of their candidates across the country dejecting many of their leaders.

She also said BNP auctioned its nominations this time to earn money from the nomination seekers. "If BNP comes to power, they will just ruin the country, its development, and demolish all the achievements of the country," she said.

“Being depressed with the attitude of the party, senior BNP leader and former ambassador Enam Ahmed Chowdhury has joined Awami League,” she said.
