BNP vows to allocate 5% of GDP for education

Study loans at low interest rates will be provided for children of low-income families

BNP has pledged to allocate 5% of national GDP for the education sector, if voted into power, the party says in its election manifesto. 

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir pledged this while reading out the party’s manifesto for the upcoming general election, at a hotel in Dhaka, on Tuesday. 

A TV channel will be opened to develop and spread education. 

World class universities will be built and study loans with low interest rates will be provided for children of low-income families. 

A special fund will be formed to facilitate meritorious students in attaining top degrees from abroad. 

Student union elections will be held in all universities including Dhaka University. 

Madarasa education will be modernized by including vocation and profession-based subjects in their curriculum. 

All necessary measures will be taken to prevent question paper leaks for public exams.  

Seats will be reserved for poor meritorious students in public and private academic institutions.
