The ruling party also set a target of producing 28,000MW electricity by 2023
The Awami League has pledged to ensure 100% electricity coverage, for everyone across Bangladesh, by 2020.
The ruling party also set a target of generating 28,000MW of electricity and positioning 23,000km of power transmission lines across the country by 2023.
These pledges were announced by Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, as she delivered her speech to unveil Awami League’s Special Pledge Manifesto on Tuesday.
If Awami league wins the 11th parliamentary election, it will establish two energy hubs in Matarbari area of Maheshkhali and Payra, the party vowed.
In order to ensure an uninterrupted energy supply, projects such as a 130km Bangladesh-India Friendship pipeline—from the Shiliguri Terminal in India to Parbatipur in Bangladesh—and a 305km pipeline—from Chittagong to Dhaka—will be prioritized.
The manifesto-unveiling event was held at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, in Dhaka, on Tuesday. The election will be held on December 30.
